The 5hp M type after its rescue from a garage forecourt in the winter of 1979. Still near its Surrey origins and due to stay for another 19 years until I was lucky enough to be offered it I've removed the 16" sawbench pulley and the trolley has gone to another home (the new owner does feel guilty:-) |
After a complete strip and clean and replacement of the little end bush it runs well. I have found a smaller pulley the right oiler and an original trolley at a local autojumble. Here it is running at the club Gas-up in May. A superb spot beside the River Otter. |
and here it is on its new (old) trolley with the ubiquitous chicken shed wheels. The new box has a coat of creosote which can't match the original tar-oil. In time I expect that engine oil will narrow the difference |

1934 Petter S type two stroke hot bulb semi -diesel just going onto the trailer for the trip to Devon. It gives 8.75 hp @ 600 rpm and last worked a sawbench in a Sussex nursery. It runs but is now dismantled for new rings and gudgeon pin...and paint!! In the background is Becky our 13 year old who is rightly keeping well away from half a ton in the air |

Detail showing the patent "Calibrater" lubricator driven by a bronze eccentric on the crank. Oil is delivered through the two pipes to the big end and cylinder |
The cylinder head and blowlamp stand. The small tube projecting towards you is the hot tube that blew its end off after five revs. |
The S type running. No special effects are required to make this one look like its running:-) |

Side view showing the elegant lines of the exhaust pot and the 4" exhaust. The engine is now dismantled for remedial work including a new gudgeon pin and recutting of the ring grooves which were 15thou worn and decidedly out of square. |
